Now I’ll see if I find this recipe for biscuits. When I wrote the recipe we did not have hens, so we also did not have eggs in them. It was not an egg to buy. It was a lady down in Samuelsberg who had hens, but only for her own use.
A cake
(4 eggs)
1 mark of margarine
4 table spoons of syrup
2 cups of milk
3 or 4 cups of sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
The dough should not be too soft, but not too hard either.
You can use any kind of shape you want to put the cookie out with. In the stove they should be brown.
I used to have a big bowl of cake dough before. Because it used to be a lot of people here. But since the TV came, they have no time to visit. They rather sit home to see what’s happening on the TV. Before we had neither TV or radio. People gathered in the kitchen. If there were not enough chairs, they sat on the floor. And the talk, it went lively and they often told stories after stories. It was a man, he was widow, and had so many stories about ghosts. He had a hatch in the middle of the kitchen floor. A square hatch. You could lift the hatch up and pick up potatoes. When the autumn nights became dark, the youth gathered at his place. The old man had only one eye. The other eye was probably destroyed during work. In the old days it was not easy to get a doctor. So he only had one eye, but he said that he looks equally clear with one eye like two. He also told one stores after stories. Some of the stories were so creepy that when they sat by the wall they moved to the hatch. You do not want to sit there in the corner. They could sit for hours and listen to stories. After hearing the stories, many people did not dare to go home. It was pleasant when peolpe visited each other.
With good people I got forward. Because I had good neighbors. “Good neighbors are the daily bread.”
