Clothing and handicrafts
All parts of the traditional sea Saami costume were used in the North Troms area until the end of the 1800s, when south Norwegian and western clothing customs gradually started to take over. The traditional costume was reconstructed in the 1990’s and has been brought back into use.
“Duodji” is the word for traditional Saami handicrafts and crafts. Natural materials such as wood, leather, horn, tin, wool and cloth are used in hand-made, beautiful and practical products, both for personal use and for exchange, sale and artistic appreciation.
