With The Grain and the Fishes, Idar Kristiansen has made it clear to me that he is about to give us a novel that will stand for some time in the history of Norwegian literature when it is rewritten. It should be rewritten, if for no other reason than Idar Kristiansen and his Kornet og fiskene.
He knows his craft – and more besides. He knows his people in joy and sorrow.
