After fighting for more than a hundred years over property rights to Čáhput / Svartskogen, the people of Manndalen won a historic victory over the state in 2001. The Supreme Court judgement concluded that the inhabitants of Manndalen have both the right to use and the right to own the large area of open land. The basis for the judgement was «age-old use».

The reconstruction after the war was a good opportunity to get the people of Manndalen to farm according to Norwegian standards. A young, newly qualified surveyor was sent to the village to regularise the properties. After a few days, the surveyor was chased out of the village by a furious procession of Manndalings.

Sámi soga lávlla was adopted as the Sámi national anthem at the Sámi conference in Åre in 1986. The text is a poem by Isak Saba, which was written and published in Sagai Muittalægja in 1906. Arne Sørli has set the poem to music.

The Sami National Day is celebrated on 6 February in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. The day is also known as Sami People's Day and Sami National Day.

The grief over a lost language and a father who was apparently someone else was the reason why Gerd Mikalsen from Manndalen decided to embark on a writing project, which has resulted in her debut novel ”Farsmålet”.

The blacksmith was an indispensable person, and there used to be several smithies in North Troms. Today there is only one smithy left in the area. Hans Erik Olsen from Kåfjord forges knife blades, nails, tools, axes, hinges and more, the old-fashioned way.

With their lives at stake, the women and men of Nord-Troms saved Jan Baalsrud from certain death when he fled from the Germans in the spring of 1943. The dramatic escape from Rebbenesøya to Sweden, which lasted two months, has been depicted in books, films and theatre.
