Leagus is an innovative and modern musical project, with its roots firmly planted in the Sea Sami music tradition.
Through Leagus, Sea Sami hymns meet an experimental and modern musical language. The result is contemporary music that is both innovative and original.
The duo consists of pianist Herborg Rundberg from Kåfjord and guitarist Kristian Svalestad Olstad from Jessheim. Their two different musical backgrounds come together in Leagus; improvisation from rough, fierce guitar riffs in good harmony with classical, rhythmic piano playing, interspersed with some singing.
Sea Sami tones
Rundberg's Sea Sami background is strongly present in Leagus. She has previously released the solo album Árbi, which is based on Sea Sami hymns. This was originally commissioned by the Riddu Riđđu festival in 2008. The phrasing, tempo and tonal language from this tradition have become the common thread in Leagus.
Rundberg is a versatile performer with training as both a classical and rhythmic pianist. She has written commissioned works for the Riddu Riđđu festival, composed for film, released several albums with various bands, been a young artist at the Festival of Northern Norway and worked as a theatre musician at the National Stage in Bergen.
