In the old days, there were two great noaids; Nakkul and Lainit. They started arguing with each other at Skibotn market, and drank a lot of liquor.

Nakkul lives in Dynvika on Uløy. He is thinking of travelling home. Then Lainit says. «You should probably get out of Lyngen». Nakkul replies:
- Let it come in whatever guise it wants, I'm not afraid.
As he leaves, he says to Lainit:
- Before you've left the Skibotndalen valley, you're on all fours.
Then he travels with his son and a bottle of liquor.

He says to the boy:
- You are to be the centurion, I will go to the back and rest, and whatever you see, you are not to warn me.

There is a terrible storm out in the fjord. When they get close to Nordnes, Nakkul says to his son:
- You must haul the sail in the centre of the mast, whatever the wind. Even if it is calm, leave the sail there.

The wind blows so that the stingray is level with the mountains. The boy is scared and Nakkul says:
- Don't be afraid, just steer with your legs.
Sometimes the wind stops, so it's mostly just a little grey. The boy thinks about pulling the sail all the way up, but is not allowed to.

Outside Åreholmen, a huge whale with a gaping mouth comes after the boat and seems to want to devour it. The boy is frightened, but doesn't dare raise the alarm. The whale jumps over the boat. Nakkul struggles to get ready. He says:
- It doesn't bother us anymore, but there are still three dangerous things in store that are worse.

They sail for a while and come down Strupen. Then the boy sees a terrible breaking sea as high as Lyngstadfjellet, and it wants to break. The sea comes towards the boat and breaks close to the stern bulkhead, but does not reach inside.

They are outside Spåkenes when the second sea arrives. It's even bigger than the first and the boy is very scared. The sea comes towards the boat as if it wants to swallow it. It breaks at the stern, but it doesn't go in.

They come down the hill in Dynvik. The boy sees the third lake, higher than Lyngstadfjellet, coming. He steers towards the noise, the sea comes towards the boat and wants to break. The boy gets in harm's way to warn him, and then the sea breaks in and overturns the boat. Nakkul rushes up, hits his son on the ear and says:
- Didn't I tell you not to raise the alarm? Well, it's still okay, we won't lose our lives.

The fourth sea comes and throws them and the boat ashore. Nakkul sends all the evil spirits back to Lainit at Skibotn. And when they came back, they found him in the upper farms of the Skibotn valley, and he died.
