Buoussi Prize 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Centre for Northern Peoples and the Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u festival have, this year as in previous years, awarded a cultural prize named the Buo\u0161\u0161i Prize. This prize honours individuals, groups, or associations who have made a significant contribution to promoting the Sea S\u00e1mi language and culture, whether through their work, their commitment, or by being inspiring role models in their local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Northern Troms, Buo\u0161\u0161i is a gender-neutral term of respect for a person who is eager, hardworking, fearless, and brave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Buo\u0161\u0161i Award shall encompass the entire Riddu Festival, and for us on the committee, which consists of the Chair of Riddu, Bente Skogvang, the Chair of SFNF, Torjer Olsen, festival director Sajje Solbakk, and general manager of the Centre for Northern Peoples, Svein O. Leiros, the choice for this year's winner was an easy one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the picture: \u00d8yvind and Liv Rundberg Photo: Svein O. Leiros<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n On Thursday, 9 July, the Buo\u0161\u0161i Award was presented to Liv and \u00d8yvind Rundberg. They are two important figures for S\u00e1mi culture, who for several decades have been central cultural builders in K\u00e5fjord and S\u00e1pmi. Among other things, they have served as organists, they have been disseminators of S\u00e1mi psalm and song traditions, and they have shared S\u00e1mi local history, understanding of nature, knowledge of the sea, and traditional knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They have not only made S\u00e1mi culture visible \u2013 they have lived it and passed it on to the next generation. These two are particularly good role models for what \"Buo\u0161\u0161i\" means in practice: namely, passion, skill, generosity, and strength in what they convey.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Buo\u0161\u0161i winners for 2026 pictured with 4 of their children.
