S\u00e1mi soga l\u00e1vlla<\/em>\u00a0was adopted as the S\u00e1mi national anthem at the S\u00e1mi conference in \u00c5re in 1986. The text is a poem by Isak Saba, which was written and published in Sagai Muittal\u00e6gja in 1906. Arne S\u00f8rli has set the poem to music.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The song of the Sami people<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Far to the north under the Big Dipper
The Sami country is slowly rising:
Expanse behind expanse stretches,
sea by sea as far as the eye can see.
Slopes, hills, narrow ravines
rises towards the sky.
Rivers roar, forests rush,
steel-grey, steep mountain-nes shoots
against the wild sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winter time with storms and cold,
snowflake without measure.
The Sami people died from the heart
connected to their home and profession.
For a traveller the moon shines,
Northern lights flicker, stars twinkle.
Reindeer grunts can be heard through the thicket,
sizzle and fizz from sea and plain,
sledging noise along winter roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And when the summer sun is shining
mountains and forests, oceans and beaches,
fishermen in gold lustre swings,
swings set on sea and lake.
Golden glittering waterfowl
and as silver the great rivers.
Poles sparkle, veins glitter,
The people under the song of danger
through stills, rapids and waterfalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sami nation's ancestry and tribe
endured has and endured so many
rampages, banishment trades,
cheeky fake tax dodgers.
Hail to you, tenacious Sami tribe!
Hail, root and flame of peace!
Never are there battles fought,
brother-blood has never run
in the silent Sami community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our fathers before have prevailed
over those who did wrong.
Let us also resist, brothers,
those who want to subjugate us!
The tenacious offspring of the sons of the sun!
Never shall you be defeated
about your golden language you guard,
