Multimedia artist Gjert Rognli from K\u00e5fjord is one of our most important contemporary Sami artists. His works have been exhibited in a number of places both at home and abroad, and he has received several international awards for them. Rognli was the first Sami artist to have an exhibition in <\/strong>The Louvre Museum in Paris.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gjert Rognli<\/em><\/strong> (b. 1966) lives in Oslo and works as a multimedia artist. In recent years he has worked on his own short films, sculpture, photography, books and performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rognli has strong roots in his birthplace Manndalen in K\u00e5fjord. In his art projects, he often deals with issues related to identity, religious roots, sexuality, silence, time and the Sami culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rognli incorporates nature and natural forces into his works, with references to the everyday and the surreal. He also takes dreams\/reality and personal or emotional places in his inner landscape as inspiration in the search for the expression of his art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In much of his art, he stages himself and stories based on his experience of theatre, stage design and architecture. Rognli conveys a visual message about a reprehensible development in how we humans live our lives, our relationship with animals and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rognli has received a number of scholarships and international awards for his work with short film and photography, and has had many solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad, including an exhibition at the Louve Museum in Paris. A number of institutions have purchased his art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the multi-media project \u00abWhat nature knows - Dan maid luondu dieht\u00e1\u00bb, Rognli draws on references from his connection to Arctic North Norway, to light, darkness and the seasons. He transforms ordinary landscapes into an enigmatic place to be and takes us on a visual journey into the atmosphere of evening and night. In the photo series of the project, he lowers light installations into water, creating harmony where there is conflict between the elements. Rognli has won several international awards for the photo series, including first place in the \u00abProfessional Fine Art\u00bb category of the renowned Fine Art Photography Award in the UK and the bronze <\/em>and Honourable Mention <\/em>in the Moscow International Foto Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, Rognli received a number of awards for his film Eallin lea guovttesuorat niehku - Life is a two-way dream<\/em>. The film shows the way in a rapidly changing world, with polarisation and globalisation in many directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rognli has worked at many of Norway's most important cultural institutions such as the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, the National Theatre and as a stage design assistant\/opening ceremony at the Olympic Games in Lillehammer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
