They made film recordings that later became the short film \u00abNordanf\u00e4rd\u00bb. This journey brought G\u00fcttler to Kjerringdalen for the first time.<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nordligefolk.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Jan-G-i-uniform-portratt-1940-scaled.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-18154\">Jan G\u00fcettler, 1940<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In January 1939, he returned, and the stay lasted a month. The photographs in this article were taken during this stay. The texts are edited excerpts from G\u00fcettler's manuscript \u00abVidden kallar\u00bb. The excerpts include Jan's memoirs from the 1936 film expedition and from his return to Kjerringdalen in 1939, which have been transcribed and edited by Kalle G\u00fcettler, 2022.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the hag's valley<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Jan G\u00fcettler explains that Kjerringdalen was the strangest place they had ever seen. The houses were small, crooked, and moss-covered. M\u00e1rjot was described as an 86-year-old S\u00e1mi woman, an avid pipe smoker and a pessimistic philosopher. They preferred not to speak about superstitions and magical powers to outsiders. Upon entering the living rooms, greetings of \u00abbures, bures\u00bb were exchanged, and then there was often talk of life in the big cities, cinema, aeroplanes, and trams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fjord in Skibotn<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Twice a year, S\u00e1mi, Norwegians and Finns met at a market in Skibotn to buy, sell and socialise.
