Sea Sami are Sami people who live along the coast and have traditionally made their living through fishing, hunting and farming. The Sea Sami settlement stretches along the coast and fjords from Finnmark in the north to Trøndelag in the south. Harsh Norwegianisation policies and the war removed almost all traces of the Sea Sami culture. Political mobilisation and arenas for the visibility and development of the culture have led to the revitalisation of Sami culture and identity. This portal will provide an insight into the history and culture of the Sea Sami in North Troms, but will also show that the culture is very much alive and constantly evolving.
