Enok Isaksen from Indre Nordnes in Gáivuotna / Kåfjord, can be called one of the last fish farmers. He himself has only fished in the fjords, but in the old boathouse, which is worthy of preservation, he keeps the eights that his grandfather used for fishing in Lofoten and Finnmark.

The old boathouse at Nordnes was built in the early 1800s. The roof is made of turf, and compared to today's boathouse, this boathouse is particularly low and wide. The boathouse houses one of the last large Nordland boats to be found in North Troms. The 30-foot octagon was built sometime in the first half of the 20th century.

A fisherman's farmhouse built in 1865 is attached to the boathouse.

- At the time, people made their living from fishing. Then came agriculture, and then the name fisherman farmer," says Isaksen.

He himself has fished in the fjords, while his father, grandfather and uncles rowed to both Lofoten and Finnmark with a Nordland boat.

- It was my grandfather who owned the boat. He inherited it from his father, who had 4-5 octuplets. There was a lot of activity at that time," says Isaksen.

Enok's grandfather, Anton Isaksen, took care of the old boat. It stood outside for a long time, but then the old boathouse underwent some renovation so that the octagon could move inside and be protected from the elements.

- «More corrections are probably needed, because in some places I can see »the day is coming through" if I go and have a look. Both the roof and one wall need to be fixed.

He hopes these old cultural treasures will be preserved for posterity.

- It's nice that it can stand here then. The boat should have been cleaned and fixed up. Because you know it gets dusted down," concludes Isaksen.
