January slowly brings light back into the world, but it can also be sharp and cold. The sun awakens gently in the middle of the month, peeks out for a moment in the middle of the day, before disappearing again behind the horizon. Still, there's comfort in the fact that the year is slowly beginning to brighten.
- 1 January, New Year's Day
- 6 January, Epiphany
- 13 January, Saint Knut's Day
- 19 January, Henriksdag
January starts with New Year's Day, which is also an official flag day. According to ancient weather signs, a cloudless sky on this day is said to herald a dry summer, while mild and cloudy weather promises a lush and beautiful summer.
- On 1 January, or better known as New Year's Day, it's important to look at the stars around midnight. If there are a lot of stars around midnight, it's going to be a good cloudberry year and it will also bring a good year of growth. But if it's cloudy, it will bring a summer of poor growth and cold weather. Another weather sign to look out for is that if it snows on New Year's Day, it will be a good fishing year.
