Industry and nature use

Fishing, hunting and farming have always been the most important industries for the population of Nord-Troms. The fisherman farmer was self-sufficient with what nature had to offer from the sea, the land and the countryside.

Regulations and quotas in the fishing industry have made it difficult for people living in the fjords to engage in traditional combination farming. Business combinations, as we see them today, often consist of either farming or fishing, combined with construction, service or other occupations in the local area.
