In 1944, large parts of Finnmark and northern Troms were burned by the Germans. As a result, most of the traditional buildings, such as farmhouses and log cabins, disappeared from the historic landscape.
Some of the old buildings survived and have been restored and preserved for posterity. These provide an insight into the life of the seafarers before modern times.
