Ingeborg Arvola
Ingeborg Arvola has published a number of novels for both children and adults. Arvola is known for her unique language and specialised themes, and her novel Neiden 1970 is regarded as an innovation in Kven literature.

Kven People's Day - kväänikansan päivä
Kvenfolkets dag - kväänikansan päivä is celebrated on 16 March each year. The day marks the first organisation of the Kvens with the establishment of the first local chapter Ruijan kväänit - Pyssyjokilaiset Norske kvener - Børselv in 1984.

Fjærabuene in Birtavarre
North of Birtavarre there are several shoreline arches lined up along the seashore. Eight of these are examples of Sea Sami building techniques from the 19th century. The huts were used to store seafaring tools and fishing equipment, but were too small to house the boats.

The combination of animal husbandry and fishing characterised the Sea Sami areas for hundreds of years. The families were self-sufficient in what nature had to offer from the sea, the land and the countryside.

Skardalen cultural landscape
Skárfvaggi / Skardalen is a small Sea Sami village in Kåfjord. In 2009, the village was selected as a national cultural landscape in agriculture.

A gamme is an earthen hut built from tree trunks and covered with earth and/or peat. In some places in northern Troms, gammes were used as dwellings, barns and boathouses right up until the Second World War.

Life in Kjerringdalen before 1940
In the summer of 1936, Jan Güettler, (1917 - 1944), and his film expedition hiked from the mountains of Lapland to the coast of the Arctic Ocean. They made film recordings that later became the short film «Nordanfärd». This journey brought Güttler to Kjerringdalen for the first time.
